  Since I was a four year old boy tampering with Legos and toy train tracks in the living room, I had always dreamed of becoming an engineer. During my time in high school, I completed all four years of the offered engineering program, and what intrigued me the most was not the engineering - it was the budgeting and finance of the engineering projects. I noticed a trend with many of the food trucks - they were not the stereotypical "food trucks" I had imagined them to be. Many were restaurants that operated out of a trailer, owned the property, and were unable to sell their product elsewhere. When asked about how they started, many said they received help from the small business office at FGCU (Florida Gulf Coast University), a local university close by. I decided to take the drive up to FGCU and interview their small business office. The employees were very nice and went through the process of licensing, tax, and regulations. One of the regulations dealt with food trucks, and the difficulty of setting up their business in different locations. At the end of the interview, they handed me the required paperwork small businesses had to file to gain approval. With the knowledge of the food truck interviews and the small business office, I reworked our groups original scheme of a mobile food truck into a business plan where we would have multiple food trucks drive to already purchased locations and return to a storage area that included an expansion option if the business was successful. In my presentation, I laid out all the inventory costs, a five year income statement, and a forecast of projected growth. I also filled out the 10+ pages of paperwork required to start the business, and displayed those as well. Needless to say, our project got an A, but this project helped me establish my interest in accounting, where I had more interest calculating costs and touring businesses rather than calculating efficiency and building circuits.
